How To Stop A Bichon Frise Growling Aggressively
Everyone loves their pets. There are all kinds of pets for someone to choose from in the world today. Among these different types of pets is the Bichon Frise. This pet is a part of the canine or dog family of pets. As with any pet, you will come across a time when the behavior of the pet becomes an issue and can cause problems in and around your home. One such issue that can arise is that of growling. Growling can be a result of a number of different reasons and an issue that needs to be resolved.
With the Bichon Frise, growling may seem a little out of their normal behavior. These dogs are generally quite friendly and sociable. They love human companionship. If your Bichon Frise is starting to show moments of growling, then there are a few things that you need to check out and rule out.
Growling can mean danger for the owner in many ways. This is true especially if not in their normal behavior patterns. When your dog growls, look around and take in what is going on. Sometimes dogs growl while they are eating. This just simply means that the dog is possessive over their food. In order to stop your Bichon Frise from growling while he eats, find the one adult that your dog loves the most and have that person feed him on a regular basis. And stay close to him while he eats. This will assure your dog that their food is safe and no one is going to take it away.
One of the main reasons why your Bichon Frise might growl is that they feel intimidated. This intimidation can stem from a number of different things. Different environments or new animals are usually the main reasons for intimidation. One way to keep your dog from growling in these instances is to introduce them to new environments or animals a little at a time. There are other times when your dog may become irritated. Children playing certain games near the dog can be a reason. If your dog is growling from these situations, then have your children stop what they are doing and slowly back away from the dog. Never run away as this will only irritate the dog further. These types of situations should always be told to the parents so that they can take care of the issue.
A person’s size can also be a factor for intimidation. The dog sees a person as threat to them simply because of the size difference. This threat will cause the dog to growl. To prevent growling in these situations the person should squat down coming as close the level of the dog as possible and extend their hand out with palm facing up. This will let the dog know that there is no need to feel threatened.
Medical issues may be the one underlying reasons as to why your Bichon Frise might growl. If you have checked all possible causes and have ruled them out, then the next step would be to have your pet visit a veterinarian. There are many medical reasons that can irritate your dog and make them uncomfortable and lead to growling. Some of these medical conditions can be allergies, hormonal imbalance and neurophysiologic functions.
One thing to remember is that though we should always let a dog know that they should not growl, it is also important to not punish them for doing so. Though discipline may temporarily stop your dog from growling, it can also lead to future worse issues such as snapping and biting.
