How To Stop A Chinese Crested Barking

The Chinese Crested dog is not typically a breed that has issues with barking. These dogs tend to be quite and well behaved. So, if you start to see an issue with barking then it is something that needs to be addressed right away. There is obviously something happening that is causing this uncommon behavior.

One of the reasons why your Chinese Crested dog may be barking is out of fear. If the dog is not well socialized or has not been exposed to noise on a regular basis then it can develop a very timid personality. This can make the dog afraid of any loud noise or any situation that they are not familiar with. This can lead to barking.

Correcting barking in this situation can be done by properly socializing the dog and exposing him to loud noises and other situations that could cause fear. It will take time to get the dog used to these things that have frightened him, but it can be done and will usually help to stop barking behavior.

Small Dog Syndrome

Chinese Crested dogs can easily end up with Small Dog Syndrome. This happens when they are babied too much and when the dog is not taught who the pack leader is. When the dog can’t find a pack leader it will start to see itself as the leader and will start to display bad behavior, like barking.

In this situation, stopping barking is done by simply taking back control. An owner has to start being the leader and let the dog know who is boss. This usually is easy to do and will help correct any bad behavior that resulted from the Small Dog Syndrome.

Loneliness

Chinese Crested dogs need human companionship. They become very attached to their owners. If the dog is not getting enough attention, left alone too much or starts to feel alone, then this can lead to barking problems. This breed of dog really has to be indoors and around humans all the time. They are the type of dog that can stand being alone all day long.

The best way to cure loneliness is to simply provide the dog with more attention and companionship. If you have this breed of dog and you have to cage it all day then you should consider getting someone to watch the dog during the day. Just by keeping the dog around people, even if it is just sitting on the floor at your feet, will help to prevent loneliness and accompanying barking behaviors.

Dogs bark to communicate. It is a natural behavior. If barking becomes a problem, though, you have to figure out what is causing it. In Chinese Crested dogs barking is usually very minimal, so a barking issue needs to be addressed right away. It is your dog’s way of telling you he is unhappy or something is not right. Don’t ignore him. Figure out what is wrong and you will stop the barking.
