How to Stop a Pomeranian Barking
Dogs bark and there is really not much that can be done about that other than control the amount of barking that takes place. Just as you would not want to be restricted to the point where you could never talk again, your dog does not want to be told to never bark again. It is their way of communicating not just with the humans, but with other dogs as well. Of course, if your Pomeranian has a habit of barking a lot, which most Pomeranian puppies do, you can take steps to help ease the barking to a more suitable level.
If you did not know before about the Pomeranian’s urge to bark all the time, you have probably realized it by now. Luckily for you though, there is help. You should realize this though, because it is in the nature of the Pomeranian to bark a lot, training may take just a little longer than training another breed when not to bark. Some of the best things you can do is to simply socialize your puppy. This way, a new dog or new person walking by will not always be a cause for an alarm of non-stop barking.
Take your Pomeranian to the dog park. Take him to a pet store that allows pets on leases to come inside. Talk to other dogs, pet them and show your puppy that the other dogs are accepted by you as well. If your Pomeranian can see you enjoying the company of new and strange dogs, he will be more likely to follow in suit. Walking through the regular parks and around the park is good as well. Something else you might want to try is to sit outside in the front of your yard and have your puppy on his lease.
When new people or dogs walk by, show your dog that you are okay with it and give him a small treat to distract him. Eventually, he will catch on that there are more important things in life than what the other dogs or people are doing. Basically, he will stop caring about all of that. This is something you could work on in a couple of days and have great success with.
As soon as a new person enters your home, your Pomeranian is likely to want to bark like crazy at them. Make sure that you are giving your puppy a chance to sniff over the guest and have the guest pet and talk kindly to your puppy. Within a few minutes, the puppy will see that everything is all well and that the stranger is actually allowed in the house. Remember, you want your dog to bark a little. It would not be any fun having a dog that sat around and watched a criminal rob your house.
Just be patient and keep working at it. Eventually you will have the barking under control and your Pomeranian will be the envy of everyone around.
