How to Stop a Pomeranian Chewing
When your new Pomeranian starts to chew on a few toys, it is cute. When your new Pomeranian takes off running through the house with your five hundred dollar pair of heels in his mouth, suddenly the chewing is not so cute anymore. Before you get to the point where the house is destroyed because of the new puppy, you will want to work on chewing issues.
All puppies chew, as it is a part of their nature. This is something that you can expect and you certainly should never rely on skipping this part of the development of your puppy. While all puppies chew a little, some people find that their puppies chew much more than average. To determine what you should do about it, you need to learn why it is that your Pomeranian is chewing so much. Is it because of stress? Is your Pomeranian chewing a lot because he is teething? Maybe your puppy just has a lot of built up energy.
If you think your puppy may just be extra active and that is the cause of the chewing, then you will want to make sure that you are giving your puppy a little more attention each day. Take your puppy for a run. Chase him all around the house. Wrestle him to the ground over and over again. Do whatever you can do to make sure that you are getting a lot of one on one time with your puppy, all while helping him get rid of some of that built up energy. This will also help if you find that your puppy is stressed during the day.
When your Pomeranian is teething, chewing is not something that you are going to be able to stop him from doing. Just as a baby would want to chew on a teething ring when his teeth comes in, your puppy wants something to chew on too. Take one of his chew toys and place it in the freezer for a few hours. This will provide him with a lot of comfort and he will enjoy the chew toy much more than the wood table legs.
During the training process, it is important to help make sure that you are setting your puppy up for success. You want your Pomeranian to succeed. To help with this, remove any and all items that might be tempting for the puppy to chew. Just take everything to a room that the puppy does not go in or simply place everything up high enough on shelves, counters or tables where they cannot be reached.
With a strict training schedule and enough time given to your Pomeranian puppy, you will find that your puppy will be fully trained in no time at all. In fact, you might just find that your puppy is more well behaved than many of the adult dogs on your street. That will be an accomplishment to be proud of.
