How To Stop A Shiba Inu Dog Or Puppy Growling

When your Shiba Inu dog or puppy starts to growl, there is nearly always a reason behind it. The reason could be a minor thing or it could be the signs of a more serious behavioral problem. Obedience training is the best practice for puppies so that they can learn the rights and wrongs from an early age. This training can be done by you – the dog owner.

However, sometimes the training process can be difficult, especially if your puppy is no longer a puppy anymore! If your training to prevent or stop a case of dog growling isn’t looking so hopeful anymore, it might be an idea to seek some professional advice. Before you do though, we have some useful information here to stop a Shiba Inu dog or puppy growling – so take a look around and see if there is something you haven’t tried before.

A dog’s behavior often represents the mood they are in or their own thought process. It is believed that one of the main causes of a dog to growl is the onset of fear or to be aggressive towards another animal or human. Oddly enough though, growling is also evident when a dog is playing – which makes it very important to the owner, that they can differentiate between a playful growl or an aggressive one.

Unfortunately, if your Shiba Inu is growling consistently in an aggressive manner – you have to take extra care to erase the problem of this dog’s behavior as it could eventually proceed into more dangerous actions. It is even more of a problem when you have young children in your household who may not read the signs between ‘play’ and ‘fear’.

So first, we should define when a Shiba Inu’s growling is a worrying matter and when it is time to take some form of action. Here are a few situations where growling could be considered a problem. Just remember that you have to judge too if this is a common and consistent growling, or if it just happens on a rare occasion. The more common it is, the more important it is to do something about it. Let us take a look:

* Your dog growls when you try to move their food from them.

* You try to move them from their favorite place.

* They growl when you attempt to take their toys from them.

* Growling occurs if you try to groom them.

* The presence of strangers, certain people within the home or other animals prompts growling.

To overcome this problem, like we mentioned before, it is best to prevent it from occurring in the first place by performing some obedience training whilst your Shiba Inu is still a puppy. The key point is to address the problem of growling and never shut a dog into another room or isolate them, which could in turn make the problem far worse than you could have imagined. Furthermore, never ever hit a dog or cause them pain – this is just wrong.

Try the following advice to prevent and stop growling in your beloved Shiba Inu – even if they have passed the puppy stage in life, there is still a chance to reform them and it is definitely worth the effort.

For safety purposes in public, always keep your dog on a lead which will keep them under your direct control and they should sense that you are the leader in this situation – keeping bad behavior to a minimum.

You might also want to use a muzzle until the day comes that they have learnt to respect and accept other dogs/humans whilst in public.

You will need to work on their behavior around other dogs – so try to introduce them slowly to dogs in which you know have a good and/or placid behavior.

A simple and firm ‘no’ every time they growl, will teach them that you are in control and they should listen and behave as you want them to.
